GridGEM enables Client-Side Active Network Management for Wind Turbine
Overview & Client Problem
Clean Earth Energy (www.cleanearthenergy.com) were offered an Active Network Management (ANM) connection into Scottish Power’s network in Scotland for a 2.5MW Vensys wind turbine. The DNO required a 3rd party client-side interface to accept their dynamic power point signal and ensure that the Vensys wind turbine responded as required. The client also needed data to ensure that when the PPL was affected they were alerted immediately and had the data to analyse network-instigated generation reduction.
Argand designed, built and delivered a turnkey GridGEM ANM control and monitoring solution for the project. The GridGEM technology directly interfaced with the DNO ANM panel, converting the incoming signal into a format that could be communicated to the wind turbine such that it’s control system was able to interpret and respond accordingly. In addition, the GridGEM ANM system incorporated a full monitoring system to collect, store, transmit and process the signal data from the DNO, the signals sent to the wind turbine and all power flows across the client-side of the network. This was done on a 5-minute basis and visualised via the GridEYE platform. Argand have developed client specific analysis to provide regular performance reporting and have initiated real-time electrical health alerts for the O&M team.
The result has been to provide the client with an independent system that manages the output of their turbine dynamically, supported by critical data to ensure it is optimised. The client also receives real-time & proactive exceptions alerts which benefit the O&M team to ensure they can respond to underperformance & / or electrical issues when required and pro-actively.
